The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any prominent prize-giving event draws close, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil in the world of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
