An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offences against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She said the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his concerns.
She said the defendant continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member called the police again.
She stated Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
